Noblis Postdoctoral Fellow Quantum Computing in Reston, Virginia

Responsibilities

Noblis is seeking a post-doctoral candidate with a strong background in Quantum Computing in Reston, VA

The successful candidate will work with Noblis subject matter experts and scientists to propose, develop and lead quantum computing oriented experiments and research across multiple domain areas.

This is a full-time, one year fellowship position with the option for a second year, with the potential opportunity to join Noblis as a full-time employee.

Candidate must be willing/able to:

  • Design and develop complex algorithms and optimization solutions.

  • Apply knowledge of Quantum hardware, software development and apply and/or develop advanced technologies, scientific principles, theories, and concepts to address next generation system requirements.

  • Stay abreast of the latest advances in computational and quantum science, hardware and computing environments.

  • Collaborate with scientists on computational studies and experiments across diverse fields including autonomous systems, biology and chemistry, aerospace, space and cyber security.

  • Actively participate in scientific/industry symposiums, conferences, and professional societies.

  • Present at scientific conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Contribute technical content to grants, proposals, white papers, and internal/external documents.

  • Communicate trends and developments in quantum science to business leaders and scientists across various disciplines.

  • Work autonomously and in a team environment with a positive collegial attitude.

Required Qualifications

Required:

  • Ph.D. in physics, computer science, mathematics, chemistry or engineering, or a similar field and granted within the last 5 years.

  • Experience in algorithmic programming and compilation of optimization problems to near-term quantum processors, both gate-model quantum processors and / or quantum annealers.

  • Expertise or interest in enabling efficient utilization of the prototype quantum hardware available for experimenting with quantum and quantum-classical hybrid approaches for exact and approximate optimization and sampling.

  • Experience and interest in research and development of quantum computational approaches to challenging combinatorial optimization and sampling problems with relevance to areas such as planning and scheduling, fault diagnosis, and machine learning.

  • Understanding of gate-model processors desired.

  • Ability to propose and execute multiple research projects.

  • A strong publication record.

  • Ability to explain deep technical concepts to non-experts.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to propose and win independent research funding is a plus.

  • A high degree of ethical and scientific standards.

  • U.S. citizenship

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Salary at Noblis is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the combination of education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, internal and external equity, location, and clearance level, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements and applicable employment laws. The projected compensation range for this position is provided within the posting and are based on full time status. Part time staff receive a prorated salary based on regularly scheduled hours. The estimated minimum and maximum displayed represents the broadest range for this position (inclusive of high geographic and high clearance requirements), and is just one component of Noblis’ total compensation package for employees.

Posted Salary Range

USD $60,000.00 - USD $120,000.00 /Yr.
